How to Edit Your Linktree: URL, Bio, Links and What Breaks

Everything on a Linktree is editable, but the four things people mean by "edit my Linktree" live in four different places, and only one of them changes your URL. Your username is your URL and sits in Account settings. Your title, bio and links are elsewhere and change nothing about the link you have already shared.

Here is where each field is, and the one edit you should think twice about.

Can you edit a Linktree?

Yes, and the confusion is worth clearing up first because it is why most people cannot find the field they want. Linktree's own documentation splits four things that searchers treat as one:

Linktree is explicit about the second row: "Updating your title won't change your Linktree username or URL." If you renamed your title and your link still reads the same, that is working as designed, not a bug.

How do you change your Linktree username?

Linktree documents the path as: open your Linktree Admin, go to the Account page (found by tapping your profile image in the left sidebar), scroll to Account management, click the three dots next to the username, and select Change username. Enter the new one, tap Review username change, then Confirm Change.

Two constraints are documented and both catch people out:

• If the username is already taken you have to pick another. Handles are one shared pool across every Linktree, so the obvious version of your name is likely gone. Running a few candidates through a slug generator before you open the settings saves the back and forth.
• "Username changes are limited to once every seven days." You get one attempt a week, so a typo costs you the week.

We hold no Linktree account, so those steps are quoted from Linktree's help centre rather than observed. If the menu has moved, the documentation is the thing to trust over any video.

Do your old Linktree links still work after a rename?

This is the part nobody on this search results page answers, and the honest answer has two halves.

What Linktree documents: no redirect at all. There is no forwarding feature, no grace period, and no mention of the old URL anywhere in the rename article. The only guidance Linktree gives about the consequence is a single tip at the end of the instructions: "Be sure to update your Linktree link wherever you've shared it." Linktree also rules out doing it yourself. Its custom-domain article says the company does not "provide developer tools for setting up domain forwarding."

What Linktree does not document: whether your old handle 404s, or goes back into the pool for someone else to claim. Neither is stated, and we are not going to guess on your behalf. What we can tell you is what an unheld handle does today, because we checked it: linktr.ee/ plus a username nobody owns returns a 404 page reading "The page you're looking for doesn't exist. Want this to be your username? Create your Linktree now."

The one exception runs the other way, and it is genuinely useful. QR codes made with Linktree's own generator survive a rename, because they encode "a unique URL, not your username". What to do before you change your handle

Work through this before you hit confirm, not after. You get one change a week, so a half-finished rename leaves you broken for seven days.

1. List every place the old URL is published. Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest, your email signature, your newsletter footer.
2. Find anything printed. Merch, flyers, business cards, stickers, packaging inserts, a conference badge. These are the ones you cannot fix later.
3. Check your QR codes. Linktree-generated ones are fine. Anything you made elsewhere needs regenerating and reprinting.
4. Check show notes and guest posts. Podcast episodes, interviews and directory listings usually need an email to somebody else, which takes days.
5. Pick the new handle first and confirm it is free, because a rejected name still burns your attempt.
6. Change the handle, then update everything in one sitting. The gap between the two is the window where your traffic goes nowhere.

One extra trap worth knowing about, because it is a different field with the same symptom: changing the email on the account takes your page down until you click the verification link. Linktree states it plainly, "Your Linktree will not be accessible to visitors until you verify your new email," and limits email changes to once every three days.

How do I edit my bio on Linktree?

The bio is a 160-character field, separate from your title. Linktree documents it as: on the Links page under My Linktree, tap Add bio underneath your username, type it, and Save. It renders below your profile title at the top of the page.

If you need more than 160 characters, Linktree's own suggestion is to add a Text link block in the body of the page instead.

How do I remove links on Linktree?

There are two different removals and the difference matters for your data. On the Links page, click the trash icon below the link URL, then choose:

• Archive keeps the analytics and lets you restore the link later.
• Delete is permanent and "also removes all its analytics." Linktree notes it "cannot be undone."

Archived links sit behind View Archive above your active links, where you can restore them or delete them for good. There is also an Archive all unpublished links button that sweeps everything currently toggled off.

Can you put your Linktree on your own domain?

No, and this is the structural reason renames hurt. Linktree's help centre says, verbatim, "We don't offer the option to use a custom domain to replace the linktr.ee URL." Every Linktree URL is a handle you rent, on a domain you do not control, on every plan from free to the $35 one.

Only by choosing a shorter username, which is the same rename above. There is no separate short-link setting, and since there is no custom domain option, linktr.ee/ is always the prefix.
